The industry of freelancers is expanding. According to Fiverr's 2022 Freelance Economic Impact Report, there will be more than 6 million independent professionals in the United States by 2021.
Fiverr describes "independent professionals" as those who make their living outside of regular employment, do not hire others, and provide creative services such as video production, technical skills such as IT, and professional services such as accountancy.
They represent 3.9 percent of the US labor force and are expected to generate $247 billion in sales in 2021.
While certain of their abilities are always in demand, the job that their clients want might vary over time. For its Small Business Needs Index, Fiverr evaluated data from millions of searches across the site to determine which services have seen notable growth in the last six months compared to the prior six months.
The top six abilities that workers want to include on their resumes right now
The Covid-19 epidemic and its economic consequences have heightened our concerns about our lives and jobs: Is this my ideal job? What sort of job am I looking for?
Do I even have the necessary abilities to succeed in this ever-changing environment?
The economy exhibited optimistic signals of improvement earlier this summer, but the advent of the highly infectious Delta variety threatens to halt the fledgling recovery.
As a result, workers are concerned about losing their jobs and finding new ones. According to a recent Edelman survey, 78 percent of workers are concerned about losing their job owing to a lack of training or job skills.
Monster interviewed workers throughout the United States in August to identify which skills individuals believed they needed the most to boost their résumé.
Approximately 86 percent of respondents indicated the epidemic had slowed their career advancement.
Training in technical skills such as coding, AI, and machine learning ranked first, with computer abilities such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Analytics ranking second.
Occupation-specific training, such as accreditation and licenses, rated third among employees in terms of most-needed hard skills training.
"People are leaning to these abilities because these sectors entail less risk, and are typically highly popular and secure to build a long-term career. , According to some experts and career coaches, and senior consultants, "Technology and computer abilities are also a great way to stand out on a CV."
Workers also have a significant desire to enhance their "soft skills," which include interpersonal abilities like communication, leadership, and teamwork.
According to Monster's survey, the most in-demand soft skills among workers are managerial leadership, communication, and problem-solving/critical thinking.
"These talents are ageless and constantly in demand among hiring managers," says Vicki Salemi, a Monster career consultant. "If anything, it's a talent that will be more in demand because, during this epidemic, people have grown more empathic toward one another, we're experiencing this collective pain, and, as a result, our work and personal lives are blending...
Companies want someone who understands this and has the empathy, communication, and leadership abilities to manage this difficulty."
Daniel says that mastering both hard and soft skills is essential since they tend to overlap in a remote work setting. "Because we are all connecting via technology, the question arises, 'How can I be a leader in this virtual work setting utilizing my computer skills?'" Daniel explains. "To sustain effectiveness when working from home, executives must remain adaptable and adopt new technologies into their processes."
Employees who want to refresh their resumes should first speak with their manager or a mentor about internal training options, according to experts:
- Say, people, 'I'm looking to improve on these certain talents.
- What would be the best program to connect to?
- Can you suggest any resources?
She asks. "Other crucial questions like
- Where do you believe our business will go in three or five years?' and,
- What is the one skill you would recommend for me to truly build my career?'"
Other sites recommended by Salemi and Daniel an expert, include free YouTube courses, TED Talks, and industry-specific organizations that offer free virtual lectures and seminars.
Workers may also determine which skills to prioritize by reading a company's basic principles on its website and reviewing the LinkedIn profiles of colleagues in comparable or fascinating occupations.
According to Salemi, even investing 20 minutes once a week can help workers close the skills gap. "Sometimes it helps to develop a syllabus or block out time on your calendar to discover your talent gap and strengthen your expertise," she says. "Learning can help us develop in our careers and motivate us at work when we're stuck."
Although learning technical abilities may help job seekers obtain an interview, Daniel believes that one distinctive talent will help a candidate stand out from the crowd.
"In this remote setting, recruiting supervisors are looking for your learning agility and flexibility," he says. "Managers want to know, 'How can you keep involved with your team remotely?' and 'How fast can you come up to speed [on our work]?'... the most versatile people will be the most successful in today's job market.
